About the Department

The Department of Dravyaguna Vigyana deals with the study of medicinal plants and natural substances described in classical Ayurvedic texts, focusing on their identification, properties, actions, and therapeutic applications.

This para-clinical department forms a crucial bridge between Ayurvedic theory and clinical practice.

Dravyaguna emphasizes understanding drugs based on Rasa (taste), Guna (qualities), Veerya (potency), Vipaka (post-digestive effect), and Prabhava (specific action). The department trains students to identify medicinal plants in their natural form and apply them rationally in disease management, in accordance with Ayurvedic principles.
